Dr Ruter is a 5 star doctor! I speak as a nurse and a patient. There are so many doctors that run in and out of the room while the patient still has questions. Dr Ruter sits down listens and doesn’t move on until your concerns are completely understood and addressed or he will take steps further, contacting other specialists etc. If he can’t help his patient he will look for someone (or facilities) that can. He takes the time to learn who his patients are. (Family members, hobbies, sports) In my experience these old school doctors are few and far between! It’s refreshing to see a doctor who is on the younger side (as in he’s younger than me) who has all the newer procedural techniques and technologies and see his patients as people, NOT a number or a disease. I refer everyone I know (and don’t know) to Dr Ruter!

Left plantar fascitis status went from level 8 pain down to a level 3-4 after one visit and some "homework." Second treatment today promises zero pain in my future.

Dr. Ruter grew up in Forreston, a small town in northwest Illinois, where he watched his father treat patients for many years. He later moved on to Rensselaer, Indiana, where he completed his undergraduate education at Saint Joseph’s College before going to Independence, Ohio, where he attended Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. He underwent his surgical residency in rearfoot reconstruction at Midwestern University and Franciscan Alliance in Dyer, Indiana. Dr. Ruter also completed a fellowship at Indiana Foot & Ankle in Jasper, Indiana, with an emphasis in diabetic nerve care and surgery along with diabetic limb salvage and reconstruction. Dr. Ruter is a faculty and board member of The Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons (AENS). In addition to teaching for the nerve association, he is also available to treat and diagnose lower extremity nerve conditions.
In his off time, Dr. Ruter enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys fishing in every sense of the word, as well as boating, kayaking, and jeep rides.
Dr. Ruter is available to see patients at our Crown Point and Schererville offices.
